Hard enamel has a flat finish and is made from solid pieces of resin or glass that are cured at much higher temperatures than soft enamel. A hard enamel lapel pin starts out much like one produced using soft enamel, but a significantly more involved process follows as the enamel colours are added to the pin before being polished or linished down to meet the rest of the pins die struck shape.
